Sumaia O

 

was born in Buenos Aires in 1976, the 24th of July, at 4:05 p.m.

In her early chilhood she showes interest in music as a language for expression,

starting private piano lessons at the age of 3.
She begins to sing before talking and, before knowing how to write, she composes songs that would later be transcribed for her.
She makes her first appearance on stage as a fairy godmother at the age of 4

and gives her first piano concert at 5, captivating the audience.
 

 

After studying for 6 years with music Professor Ana María Serrano

she decides to enter the private music school Collegium Musicum in 1985.
There she continues her piano training skills and receives a classical music education for 4 more years.
As part of the School chorus she is moved from the lowest voice to the highest, and back, due to the doubts her mezzosoprano voice range generates.

She composes her first songs for piano and voice,

slowly discovering the need for a deeper vocal training.

In 1994 she takes guitar lessons from Professor Alejandro Cabrera

and composes a series of songs with this instrument that encourages her to seek for ways of forming a band and starting to playing.
In 1995 she begins her vocal studies with Professor Gachi Leibovich for 2 years,

receiving very important tools for expressing the most diverse emotions through the use of her voice.
That same year she enters university, studying Psychology at the Universidad del Salvador.
In October of 1996 she joins the pop band Vincent Vega.


 

That same year in December they record their first demo,

make their first public appearance at El Dorado, the legendary club in Buenos Aires,

and tour some tourist seaside cities of Argentina.
In 1998 she begins studying an ancient lyric technique, brought to Argentina from Italy,

with Professor José Manuel Elliot.

Since 2002 until today she continues her training with David Levín and teaches that technique privately.
That same year she pursues a two-year music degree at the Universidad Católica Argentina.

 

In July of 2001, with one album published, two videos shown on Much Music, MTV and other music channels, and a numerous number of concerts given at the best clubs of Buenos Aires,

the band decides to split up.

 

 

In 2000 she is invited to participate in the concert of bells "Será Buenos Ares"

organized by composer Lorenç Barber.
She is on charge of the church tower at the Basílica del Smo. Rosario.
That same year she is invited to record the voices for the soundtrack of the Argentine movie

"Tesoro Mío", with music composed by Mario Siperman and

Daniel Lozano (Los Fabulosos Cadillacs).
She continues and completes her undergraduate degree in psychology by the year 2002.
In 2001 she records "Across the universe" for stickist Sebastián Woscoboinik's first album,

"Blue Universe".

In 2002 and 2003 she studies acting with Professor Carlos Gandolfo

and photography with Lucila Bodelón.
She is also invited by the duet "Big Head" to add her voice on two of their songs.

Beautiful, one of the songs, is published by label Sinister and is broadcasted through the USA.
In 2003 she composes two incidental music pieces for

Lucila Bodelón's video-portfolio.
That same year guitarist Federico Aubele invites her to record the voices for his album
"Gran Hotel Buenos Aires", produced and published by

ESL Music in Washington D.C.
A year later they would tour through 18 cities in the US and Canada.

Artist Daniela Semino invites her to compose the music of a new performance. Also Lucila Bodelón makes the first clip Heart on photographs and Super 8 fragments of the photographer.

That same year "Secret", Sumaia O's first solo album, is released on the markets..

Film maker Mariángeles Taroni chooses "Nocturna" as part of the soundtrack for her short film"e-vidente/mente"

In 2007 Carolina Molinari makes the second clip "Lixa", live from the Espacio Cultural Carlos Gardel of Buenos Aires.

That same year songwriter Pablo Dacal invites her to records some voices for his third album "La Era del Sonido".

Marcelo Lupis invites her to sing Nhlonge Yamina by Mário Laginha for the official presentation of his second album "Juguetes",

live from the ND Ateneo of Buenos Aires.
